The Guy who wouldn't get placed.

"An email from Sujit Mathews is more momentous than getting an autograph from Shah-Rukh Khan…"   - Dhaval Trivedi

So I guess lady luck has a small crush on me cos when news of my placement reached my dear friend Sujit, he wrote my biography.... and mailed it to the whole batch!  On blogger he goes by the name 'Free Spirit' and there is no way in hell he could have chosen a better one. For a while I wasn't sure if I wanted to thank him for such a beautiful message or scold him for sharing a personal story with so many...

I've finally decided to share it on my blog. Well... an email from Sujit IS special. More special than an autograph from Shah-Rukh Khan.

Re: Congratulations Harish for getting through Trafigura...Der Aaye Par MAJBUT Aaye...:)

Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.... Absolutely… delirious to read those “Magical words” by Viral . “Holy F***” !!!!!!!!!…..What do I type??? *$%#@^&***%^$#%@!*&%amp;^@#. Every single “permutation and combination” of characters on my keyboard fail to capture the essence of how monumental this moment truly is. I just coined a new word called “Fantalacious” to exclusively describe this special moment . I have no idea what that means, but it sounds really cool and surreal. This moment is not only about you bagging ur dream job, but its also a reflection of the triumph of steadfast belief, faith and hope over pessimism, cynicism and fear. Its been immensely inspiring and enriching to witness your fascinating odyssey of rediscovery from close quarters.

Every bitch… oops..I mean , Every batch , has that one defining story.. that they love to share with their loved ones . A timeless story, that’s embedded with invaluable pearls of wisdom for life . A priceless story, that lingers and resounds in the hearts and minds of its listeners… through the ages to come . A story of how, seeming setbacks and fleeting failures could be a purging process and a path to a divinely ordained destination by the creator of the universe. A story of how, an unflinching belief in following ur heart and having the balls to back urself while making choices pays rich dividends in life. As I was typing the previous line , I experienced an epiphany and the famous quote by Albus Dumbledore ( from the book “Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets”) dawned upon me . "It is our choices, Harry, that show us what we truly are, far more than our abilities." Truer words were never spoken. I wonder which Harry ,the prolific author J.K Rowling had in mind while she was penning down these words. God Knows!!….What matters is both the Harrys made some really wonderful choices.

I could go on and on abt it.In short,… I am glad to find “The defining story” of my batch , something I would love be share with my grandchildren.

I have to confess …that from now on, I will feel a slight consternation in my spirit and sense a shiver running down my spine , every time I think abt the mystery of May 16th. Dude, that’s another legendary tale .We personally experienced the mayhem and cataclysmic turmoil …surrounding that fateful day. Damn!!! The alignment of stars and planets must have definitely changed to transport u from one realm… to the other end of the spectrum. I cant help but marvel at the clairvoyant ability of your “Family pundit” and bow down in admiration to the dexterity and accuracy with which your sis has mastered the art of palmistry. Such tales would make an atheist believe in the existence of supernatural powers .

Now, that all the planets and stars have finally aligned themselves in your favor , you could expect the floodgates of heaven to shower more blessings on you in the near future. So always be on your toes. With lady luck courting you all over again ,I wouldn’t be amazed if an angel just flew through those narrow floodgates of heaven and crossed path with “The prince ..in perennial search for his soul mate .”

Just wanna thank your mom for providing the most delicious food for our journey. Just for the record, I love Rajasthani cuisine .I don’t mind coming back to Mumbai just to savor them again. (Ok!!! coming back to Mumbai part …was an exaggeration but I seriously loved…. the food.)The amusing part of grabbing such a plum offer will play in front of your eyes in the forthcoming days. With this one single stroke , your stock has risen exponentially through the roof in the ma****** market, and a lot of investors would love to buy the same .As life brings you back to square one, with possibly the most important decision of your life, I guess the same path of following the beat of your heart , not compromising with your beliefs and refusing to take the easy way out will guide u in making the right choice.

Have a magical life ahead. Wishing you loads of success… as you “explore the adventure “and “celebrate the gift” called life.

Regards,
Sujit Mathew

Spread love ,happiness and humanity with a vengeance.....and for the record, my name is Sujit Mathew.

Hope, Love and the Pursuit of Happiness

Hope is a good thing…  may be the best of things.
                                                                                              - Shawshank Redemption

The message is simple yet powerful.  You fail only when you quit trying. Never give up on your dreams and you will never fail.

So let me tell you the story about a guy who fell in love with a beautiful girl. True love. And he'd watched Shawshank Redemption an adequate number of times to internalize the fail proof mantra for success, never giving up!  One day, after yet another dream date (a dream in which he took her on a date) a strange thought crossed his mind…

What if the girl feels the same way too… for another guy!! Assuming that she has seen the movie, isn’t she supposed to keep trying till she is finally with her guy too!!  Never give up right! Oh DAMN!!!

Don’t be ridiculous! thought the boy. My love is true and pure... she’ll definitely give up on the other guy once she realizes how much I love her!

A grin flashed across the boy’s face. It didn't last for long though...

But then…wont her love for the other guy be pure too? Wont losing him break her heart?  If so, isn’t true love about putting the other person’s happiness above ours? Even if we do end up together, will I still feel the same way about her knowing that she is a quitter and gave up on the boy she loved so easily? And if she ends up with the other guy, should I still keep trying? Till when? Wont that kind of make me a loser? What a sad thought!

And that’s when he saw the black swan for the first time... the one which didn't feature in the movie.

You may never give up on your dreams… but what if your dreams give up on you ?

So the boy began to wonder… hope gave me the strength to never give up on my dreams. But now I’ve realized that if I truly love this girl I'll have to let her follow her own dreams even if they end up shattering mine. Hope made me believe I would succeed one day but realizing that I never may has filled my heart with sadness.

The boy was bitter as he ran towards the temple… (Well he had seen enough bollywood flicks too...) he wanted answers... to scream out loud. Scream at God for being such a sadist!

Karmanye vadhikaraste…  a distant yet clear voice fell upon his ears...

Dont scream you old fool... I've heard the shloka a thousand times! Karmanye Vadhikaraste… Do your karma, but dont expect returns. God knows everything, keep the faith.

And in that moment the plot suddenly became clear…

In life if you have loved you will find love. It may not be in the form you dream of today but it will be one you deserve. So follow your heart, keep the faith.

The next day, as the boy walked towards the pretty girl, he couldn't stop smiling…

Hope may be a good thing, but faith is the best of things.
