There was once a boy, skinny and small
Courage didn’t keep its promise, his bullies were too tall
His screams betrayed his voice, too scared that they'd be heard
‘Just wait for the day…' he choked... 'The day I grow up!’
The girl with pretty eyes... the innocence of a dove.
With the smile of an angel and the glow of a pearl.
He gazed at her often, wishing she would be his girl.
But a ‘Hi’ would have to wait for later, for now he had to grow up.
Death struck without warning, took a brother so dear.
They’d lock up the rooms, but their wailing he could still hear.
He stood quietly by the door, didn't let a tear show up.
They'd told him men don’t cry… and he had to grow up.
She came like summer breeze, so gentle and sweet
He thanked God for his kindness and he prayed at his feet
He was broken when it ended, but time made him understand.
He had lost out in love but he had won a true friend.
He tried to show no pain, take it all in his stride,
But there were moments when those tears, he could no longer hide.
And just when all seemed lost, and he was about to give up,
‘You've been brave, my son...' said his mother. 'I think you have grown up...'
nice.. :-)

ReplyDeleteThis poem beautifully encapsulates the boy's wonderful odyssey called life. My spirit dovetails with the line that "the boy lost out in love."
ReplyDeleteA wise person once said "Any love or happiness given 2 anyone always comes back. Unfortunately we expect it from d same person. It not only comes back, but also comes back in double measure coz love is generous, divine and giving ."
Since the boy has been certified a "Grown up" by the person who matters the most, the creator of the universe would align all the planets and the stars to ensure the arrival of the angel who would inspire the boy to be "The perfect man".So the boy better be prepared:).
Thanks Sujit :) Amen!!
ReplyDelete(I do agree with what you've said about love.. have tried to put across the same thoughts in "Hope Love and the pursuit of Happiness")
