The Life-boat and the Ship

“I hate you!” screamed the little life-boat
You sail the high seas with a will of your own
And bask in glory as men gawk your beauty
But keep me chained up to your stern!

“I hate you!” fumed the little life-boat
You sail the high seas with a will of your own
And glide through the waves as the wind fills your sails
As I flail around helplessly by your stern!

“I hate you!” roared the little life-boat
You sail the high seas with a will of your own
While your deck glows in the warmth of ball room dances...
I shudder in the rain and the wind and the cold!

“I hate you!” sobbed the little life-boat…
But her cry was cut off by a screech and a thump.
And the ship knew at once it was time to break her silence
For the reef was too sharp and cut deep into her hull

Forgive me dear life-boat... I love you too much.
To let you get pounded by the sea and the surf.
I tied you to my stern so we’d sail the world together…
Not knowing that my love, would one day become your curse.

As the waters rise higher; you are no longer safe
I release you from my chains… you are free to now go
When I lie beneath the ocean, my heart will be at peace,
Knowing somewhere on the horizon, a little life-boat stays afloat.

  1. Brilliant yaar... I am running out of words... The theme around which the poem revolves, the choice of words.. the personification of boat and the ship.. it is cool.. :) loved it..
